Eating healthy foods is a critical part of maintaining and improving health. Live Healthy Appalachia promotes nutritional habits consisting on whole foods, foods as grown, plant-based diets.
Eating Guidelines for Optimal Health
Live Healthy Appalachia encourages people to adopt more “plant-based” ways of eating. A plant-based diet is a diet that primarily consists of whole, unprocessed plant foods, including: vegetables, fruits, whole grains, and legumes (beans). Another key component of eating plant-based is to eat “foods as grown,” which means foods that have not been processed or changed a lot. In the grocery store, whole foods have few ingredients on the label. A plant-based diet is simple to understand and easy to follow: eat whole plant-foods, and eat a lot of them!
Why eat this way?
Poor health is a growing problem in Appalachia, but it doesn’t have to be! The root cause of many of the most common diseases like diabetes, heart disease, and even many cancers, is how we eat. Take charge of your health by choosing to eat a healthier diet rich in plant-based foods!
